In a music scene saturated with sex and sentimentality, annaJo offers a refreshingly different type of love song, characterised by honesty and insight.
Infusing piano-led pop with a rocky edge,a twist of jazz and a soulful centre, this modern minstrel has been captivating audiences in the south of England for years with her distinctive voice, humour and warmth.
Described by Louder Than The Music as 'a wonderful and exciting find', annaJo grew up in Sussex and sang with various bands and duos before stepping out as a solo artist to share the songs she'd been writing since the age of thirteen. Back in 2008 she released her debut album, Just Me and became a finalist in the UK Songwriting Contest with her song, 'Gideon'. In 2011, teaming up with producer Justin Johnson, annaJo finally began recording a new EP, Jackpot; a diverse collection of new tracks showcasing her increasing depth and versatility. From the jazzy, upbeat title track to the catchy optimism of 'On My Sleeve' and the enveloping beauty of ‘Held’, Jackpot manages to be both fresh and familiar.
annaJo's charm is in her simplicity. Inspired by life, love, beauty, laughter and tears, these songs are just timeless stories set to pretty tunes, or in annaJo's own words, 'old maladies; new melodies'.
